Some people seem to think that blogging is dying out.
Which is understandable because of the number of blog posts that are published every day.
However, most of those blog posts are short (and in most cases) uninformative to people.
So, what are the benefits of blogging and how can you use blogging in 2019 to build your business?
1. Blogging is The Easiest Way to Get Started
When it comes to online marketing, there is no easier way of getting started than blogging.
Which is probably why over over 80 million blog posts were published in April 2019.
Blogging is also a way to speak directly to your target audience and teach them on topics that they care about.
Notice how I said “teach” rather than “sell.”
That’s because teaching people how to solve their problems over shoving products in their face is a lot more trustworthy and relevant to them (making selling a lot easier later on).
People want to feel as if you understand their situation (nobody likes to feel lonely).
So, how can you differentiate yourself from all of the other blog posts out there?
Luckily for you, it’s a lot simpler than you think.
1.1 Create Content That Helps or Entertains People
Most of those 70 million blog posts serve no purpose to the world and end up not being seen by anybody.
The main reason for this is because most content fails to accomplish one of two things.
Help people learn something or entertain them.
By creating content that is either entertaining or teaches people something that is valuable to them will put your content in the 10% of content around the world.
Now, I know what you’re thinking (if you want to create helpful content).
How do I know what people want to learn about?
Which leads me into my second tip on how to create content that gathers attention.
1.2 Using Keyword Research to Find Out What Topics to Discuss
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the best way to get consistent traffic to your website.
You optimize your website for your target keyword, and by getting onto page 1 of any search engine, you’ll start to receive traffic from them.

1.3 Understand What Works in Your Niche
Not every niche is the same, and if it were then skillful marketers would be able to dominate every market out there.
That’s why you need to have a good understanding as to what type of content works in your niche.
For example, in the affiliate marketing niche, long-form content, case studies, and pillar articles all work really well.
Pillar content is a blog post that covers an entire topic.
Let’s use another example.
If you wanted to learn more about WordPress and how to build your website, you'd most likely want how-to tutorials.
Which is why WPBeginner is such a big website.
All they do is supply, high-quality tutorials for their target audience.
1.4 Make Sure That Your Content is Always Fresh
SEO and people are always changing, and because of that, the type of content people look for when searching for any particular keyword changes as well.
To make sure that your content always serves the user’s intent, you need to update your content from time to time.
As I mentioned before, I updated my WordPress SEO guide and On-Page SEO checklist recently.
Not because they sucked (well that is 15% of the reason), but merely because they no longer serve the user’s intent.
I would recommend adding new content to your existing posts every few months and updating them whenever they need it.
1.5 Reach Out to People in Your Industry
I recently published a blog post about Neil Patel questioning whether or not his advice was useful for affiliate marketers.
Edit: That post no longer exists on BloggerXL.
Instead of leaving it there to rank on Google (eventually), I decided to email him about the article.
In the email, I asked him to check out the article and give me some feedback.
I even made it clear that I was generally just asking for feedback and not trying to slyly get him to share my article.
As you can imagine, not only did he give me feedback on the article, but he shared it on Twitter.
Though I would’ve liked feedback that actually helped me improve the article, I am not complaining.
I eventually got the type of feedback I was looking for in a comment.
Point is even when you think that nobody will like your content and everybody will dismiss it, you never know until you reach out to people in your industry and get eyes on your article.
2. Learning How to Blog and Rank Those Blogs is A Valuable Skill
Blogging isn’t just writing and publishing content.
There are a lot of things that go into blogging, and if you can learn how to effectively start and grow a blog, then you’ll have learned a valuable skill.
Did you know that the SEO industry will be worth $80 billion by next year?
And that doesn’t count the skill of using SEO for blogging, that’s just for SEO agencies.
Not only can you sell your blogging skills as a service, but you can also use those skills to grow your blog to generate over $100,000 (like Chris Lee from RankXL).

There are more, however, for most affiliates, these are the skills that will help you the most.
3. Blogging Can Build Authority in Your Niche
It doesn’t matter how much on a subject you know, there will always be people who know less than you.
And that’s one of the many pros of blogging (well content creation).
You can share your knowledge with those who want to learn about that subject.
By consistently doing that, you’ll eventually find yourself being amongst the experts within that industry.

And one of my points was that it’s challenging to build authority in a niche, however, once you can become an authoritative source, selling becomes 100x easier.
4. Blogging Frees Your Life Up
Blogging is awesome for many reasons, but one of the main reasons people seek blogging is because it can free up your life.
Not only does it allow you to work from wherever you want (in regards to location), it will enable you to do more with less.
When I got started with affiliate marketing, I met somebody who was at the time making about the same amount of money as your average 9 - 5 worker.
Yet, they were so much happier because they weren’t tied down by anybody when it came to holidays, lazy days, and spending time with their family,
Sure, you’re still running a business, however, because you’re able to do more things that you enjoy doing, you’re going to live a freer life.
If you haven’t started a blog of your own, get started now.
5. Blogging Can Help You Achieve Things You Never Thought Possible (Like Becoming a Best-Selling Author)
A few years ago, I used to watch a group of guys who call themselves the “Sidemen.”
They were just a group of guys making funny videos, and they instantly blew up.
Fast forward a good couple of years, and they had just released a book and become best-selling authors.
One of them (Ethan) stated that he didn’t even get an English GCSE (which is the qualifications in the UK).
Just because he had a massive audience of millions of people, he was able to do something that wouldn’t have been possible before.
And blogging can give you the same results.
By consistently creating content and building an audience through networking and SEO, you can find opportunities that you never thought were possible beforehand.
6. Blogging Attracts Leads Which Will Improve Sells
The money is in the list.
If you’ve been in the online marketing scene for long enough, then I am 100% sure that you’ve heard somebody say this before.
The reason for that is because of how effective email marketing is for bloggers.
I’ve even started trying to grow an email list for myself.
Take a look at my homepage, and you’ll see what I mean.
As a blogger, your top of the funnel content can serve as a medium for getting new people into your email list.
There you can be a little bit more aggressive with your affiliate promotions.
Here are a few ways you can grow your email lists to promote affiliate promotions.
6.1 Make Freebies for New Readers
Freebies are a great way to get new readers to sign up to your list, and they’re easy to make because they’re usually resource pages, eBooks or other types of PDF files.
I am in the middle of creating an eBook for you guys as well.
If you’re not sure what to create, then you can ask your audience what they would like to learn from you.
Which leads me to ask, what would you like me to exclusively cover through emails or an eBook.
6.2 Create an Email Course
Making an email course is the best way (in my opinion) to build trust from your readers.
Usually, an email course would be a small 7-day course that will give them nothing but value until the end where you can promote a paid course (or in our case an affiliate promotion).
A great example of this would be the small SEO course that Chris Lee released before promoting his products.
It was a great course, and it allowed his audience to get a glimpse to what sort of quality they can expect from his paid course.
For us affiliates, we could give a detailed tutorial or case study that preludes into promoting the product we used during the course.
6.3 Add Content Upgrades to Your Blog Posts
This tip isn’t something that I have necessarily used myself, but content upgrades are a great way to give extra value to your readers from the beginning.
I love using email marketing as an example so I will continue to use it.
Let’s say that you created a review on ConvertKit.
You can use a case study of you getting more email subscribers as a way to still get your reader’s emails if they don’t click through your affiliate links.
Adam from WPCrafter is an example of this.
Whenever you purchase any products/services through his affiliate link, you can email him and get access to an in-depth course on how to use the product/service you’ve just purchased.
So not only do you get a solution to your problem, but you get a detailed course on how to best use that solution.
6.4 Offer a Free Tool
Not everybody will be able to do this, however, if you can, you should.
Neil Patel receives a lot of traffic, and I mean a lot.
However, most of it comes from his free keyword research tool, Ubersuggest.
He gains tons of new readers, subscribers, backlinks just because he has a tool that he gives away.
7. Providing Value Through Blogging Can Help You Connect With Other Influencers
Are there any influencers that you’ve seen that you try to imitate?
Imagine if you got to know that person on a personal level?
I am not going to say that blogging will allow you to build a relationship with the top names in your industry, but it will increase your chances of that happening.
The most significant part of networking is leverage, and if you can build a decently sized audience who care about what you have to say, it can give you opportunities to interview the top names in your niche.
Being called the best is an excellent boost to your confidence, and the top 1% of people are no different.
So, get out there, create some content and try reaching out to people with bigger audiences than your own.

8. Blogging is Fun
Probably one of the most underrated reasons as to why you should start blogging is because it’s fun.
Think about it, you’re learning new skills, potentially earning a full-time income (while traveling the world - if you like doing that), and most importantly, talking about something that you enjoy.
Look at BloggerXL.
I built it because I enjoy talking about blogging, SEO, and content marketing in general.
So, every day I am waking up and doing something I enjoy doing.
Anthony Says: If you’re planning on starting a blog and you’ve no idea what to blog about because “you don’t enjoy many things,” then try out new things.
Before I started blogging about blogging and SEO, I had no idea that it would be something that I enjoyed doing.
So, get out there and try stuff out and make sure that you find balance.
What I mean by that is you need to build a blog around something that is profitable and something that you enjoy.
